Rovelo’s full line-up of performance tyres – there’s something for everyone

As much as we would like to forget about them, tyres are one of those components on your car that you can’t ignore. They’re essential to a car’s driving experience and safety, making them, in our opinion, the four most important things on your car.

When it comes to tyres, many motorists face the conundrum of which tyres to choose. One of the reasons for this is that there are a plethora of options from different manufacturers, all touting similar or identical attributes.

This makes it tricky to answer the question of whether you’ve fitted your car with the good and right stuff. In addition, they are costly to replace, so it’s best you get a set of tyres that is fit for purpose rather than just buying them for their flashy looks or name – because who likes to overspend, right?

Industrialization and technology have allowed more tyre manufacturers to crop up worldwide. Due to this, we are no longer bound to traditional manufacturers with their traditional ways, as relatively ‘newer’ players have come up with modern techniques to make great and affordable tyres.

One of these new tyre manufacturers that are making waves in the tyre scene is Rovelo, a tyre manufacturer with a global footprint. What was once a small local enterprise is now an international operation that supplies tyres globally with a network spanning North America, Europe and Asia.

Rovelo has cemented its place among its users as a brand that provides the market with a wide range of high-quality, economical tyres at competitive prices. With most of us tightening our belts these days, it’s good to know a tyre manufacturer such as Revola is around.

They have an excellent range of tyres to suit your needs, so read on if you want to know which one might be the right one for you.

RHP-A68 – Comfort-biased high-performance tyres for small cars

The RHP A68 is a comfort-biased high-performance tyre with great durability. It’s practically made for those who spend a lot of time in their car. Although it is comfort-based, its asymmetrical tread pattern still provides excellent cornering stability while maintaining superior wet traction.

Durability is also one of the tyre’s strong points, as its reinforced shoulder ribs have been engineered for high-speed cornering while extending tread life. Braking performance is also enhanced through its tread sipes(small slits in the tyre’s tread block) which improve braking in all weather conditions.

Available sizes: 12″ – 16″

RHP-780P – High-performance tyres for small cars

The RHP-780P is Rovelo’s take on a high-performance tyre with good grip on dry and wet roads. This is a tyre for those who like to go on spirited drives occasionally but, at the same time, would appreciate some comfort when things are mellow.

The centre rib and enhanced tread block design increases grip and stability for greater manoeuvrability and the specialized bead design ensures safety as it provides a close seal between the inflated tyre and rim.

The tyre also has four channel grooves, which maximizes hydroplaning resistance to ensure greater safety on wet roads.

Available sizes: 15″-16″

RPX988 – Touring high performance tyres for executive cars

The RPX-988 features wide shoulder tread blocks with high-angle sipes for high-speed cornering performance. Its advanced tread rubber compound also delivers exceptional handling while maintaining superior wet traction.

Comfort-wise, the tyre has been designed to reduce vibrations for improved driving comfort. Safety is also one of its key strengths, as its enhanced rubber compound drastically improves braking in all weather conditions.

Available sizes: 15″ – 20″

Sport A1 – Ultra high-performance tyres for executive cars

The Sport A1 tyre is specifically suited for high-performance and executive vehicles. It is engineered to deliver precise wet and dry handling characteristics while simultaneously being comfortable and quiet.

Its asymmetrical tread pattern provides excellent cornering stability, perfect when the going gets fast, and its groove design efficiently drains water for safer driving on wet roads. Its wave-like shoulder groove design also helps reduce noise emissions which will come in handy on long journeys.

Available sizes: 15″ – 20″

In a nutshell, Rovelo tyres are designed to suit Malaysia’s climate, road conditions and applications to suit you and me. As a bonus, Rovelo tyres are also budget-friendly on your wallet.

You can find out more info about the Rovelo tyre to suit your needs through Rovelo Malaysia’s FB page here or website: www.rovelo.stamfordtyres.com.my

GE15: 20 car lanes available at CIQ for Malaysians from Singapore

The Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) over at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) will open 20 car lanes for GE15.

Dedicated to fellow Malaysians to return home from Singapore for the country’s 15th general election, the 20 lanes will be opened for Malaysian-registered cars at the Johor-Singapore border starting on the noon of 18 November 2022 up until the same time on the very next day – voting day.

Dedicated lanes for Malaysian-registered cars

The Star reports that State Works, Transportation, and Infrastructure committee chairman, Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, stated “The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has agreed to prepare the dedicated lanes for Malaysian registered cars.”

“We advice those returning home to vote to use these lanes. There are three zones that are currently operating at the moment that could be used by any registered cars. For the election, we will dedicate two of the zones, which has a total of about 20 lanes, for Malaysian registered cars,” added Fazli.

Inspect your cars before your travels

A good number of Malaysians will be travelling quite a distance to conduct our statutory duties as citizens to vote in the upcoming election and for those who are planning to drive back, making sure that your cars are in tip-top condition is a priority.

We’ve prepared a basic list of things to inspect or look out for before the journey to ensure that everything is in the safest of conditions. Things like tyre and brake conditions, lights, oil levels, and fluids should be checked. For more info, CLICK HERE.

It’s official, folks. The BYD Atto 3 and e6 EV models will be launched right here in Malaysia in December 2022.

Following the announcement of Sime Darby Motors as the official distributor for the BYD brand here in Malaysia back in September, the first two models will be making their official appearances in December 2022, and more to follow suit in 2023.

BYD Atto 3 & e6 – estimated from RM150k-RM170k

For those who are interested in getting their very own BYD EV, whether it’s the Atto 3 compact SUV or e6 crossover/compact MPV, the estimated prices for the first two models are set around RM150,000 to RM170,000. Interested parties can already register their interest via the BYD – Sime Darby Motors Malaysia Facebook page.

Bookings, however, are still not yet available for now but if the timeline strongly suggests that these two models will indeed be launched in December this year, then it won’t be long before interested parties can start placing their bookings for the very first batch of BYD EVs here in Malaysia.

Two variants for the BYD Atto 3

There will be two BYD Atto 3 variants that’ll come into the Malaysian market which can be differentiated via its BYD Blade EV battery capacities – 49.92kWh and 60.48kWh. The former offers a 410km NEDC range while the latter grants a slightly further NEDC range of 480km.

Both variants are fitted with the same front-mounted electric motors that produce 210hp and 310Nm of torque. As for the e6 crossover/compact MPV, that features a 71.7kWh battery mated to a 93hp electric motor that can generate 180Nm of torque. NEDC distance is said to be within the 522km range.

It’s going to be a very interesting couple of months for the entry-level EV segment here in Malaysia, folks. We’ll also be getting the Ora Good Cat within the same timeframe as well as Renault Zoe. More to follow suit, of course.

2023 Nissan GT-R now on sale in the US – From RM537k

Nissan USA has officially announced that the 2023 Nissan GT-R is available for purchase from $113,540 (around RM537,000).

Just when you thought the GT-R R35 book is closed for good (especially in Japan with the final T-spec and Nismo variants), Nissan dealers in the US are offering the JDM legend in two variants as well – Premium and Nismo.

GT-R R35 sales still strong?

Nissan’s HQ in Japan has stated in the recent past that the sales for the 2022 Nissan GT-R have officially ended as it has reached the planned sales volume. Initially, the last two variants in Japan for 2022 would be the T-spec and Nismo Special Edition while the US market will be selling these as 2021 models. Well, it’s now the 2023 model year.

It’s no surprise that the demand for the R35 is still strong in a JDM-obsessed country like the US. For the 2023 year model, customers can opt between the Premium or Nismo GT-R which carries vastly different specs as well as price tags.

RM997k for the GT-R Nismo edition

If you’re a baller with no idea how to spend your millions, the 2023 Nissan GT-R Nismo Edition can be yours for only $210,740 or around the RM997k mark. That’s quite a price to ‘invest’ in but these might just be the last new GT-R models to be sold in the US.

The Nismo version comes with upgraded turbochargers taken directly from the GT3 GT-R race car which bumps the power output from 565hp to 600hp. Torque is also increased from 633Nm to 652Nm plus other features like Nismo-tuned suspension, carbon fibre bodywork, larger Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, and more.

Guan Eng Janji Hapus Tol Lebuhraya PLUS Jika PH Menang PRU

Hapus Tol Lebuh Raya Jika PH Menang PRU

Hapuskan Tol, Boleh Atau Tidak?

5 Best Hot Hatchbacks Under RM80k In Malaysia

Since the first arrival of the hot hatch, no other type of car perfectly blends everyday practicality and performance, but the good news is that there’s lots to choose from.

While Malaysia might not have the market abundance of, say, the UK, there are still a selection of hot hatchbacks that tick all the right boxes, and a majority of them can be found on the used market for a fraction of their price when brand new.

The formula of adding more power and precision handling to an otherwise uninspiring 5-door family car has been refined over the past decades to make most contenders in the hot hatch space a pretty well-rounded machine.

If you’re willing to look in the right places and take your time during your search, you’re bound to stumble onto a gem. But to help you along, here’s some of our best picks from the pre-owned pool in Carlist.my that are under 10 years old and around RM80,000.

Volkswagen Golf GTI (MK6)

The OG hot hatch will always be a tough one to unseat and the MK6 VW Golf GTI is a refinement of that lineage that improves upon the leapfrogging MK5 in almost every way.

Its stout 2.0-litre TSI engine packs a strong punch with 210PS and is very open to further tuning, which can also be said of its more durable dual-clutch transmission (DSG) that moves past the reliability issues (mostly) that plagued other Golf variants. Paired with an understatedly classy exterior and cabin, the Golf GTI the obvious choice for some very good reasons.

What We Like

What We Don’t Like

Class-less, elegant, sporty looks

Look out for modded units

German build quality

‘Tartan’ fabric seats aren’t for everyone

Exciting yet everyday driveable character

Stay alert for DSG issues

Peugeot 208 GTI

For nearly 30 years the French brand has been trying to recreate the magic that was the 205 GTi from the 1980s, arguably their most iconic model. In the 208 GTi, after many tries, they’ve come the closest yet.

Its 200PS 1.6-litre turbo mill was as playful as its pointy nose.Handling is taut and power is delivered to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission, an analogue antidote to most of its peers even today. Compact, lightweight, stylish, and always ready for a burst of fun, this was a return to form for Peugeot.

What We Like

What We Don’t Like

Sexy French appeal

3-door format isn’t very practical

6-speed manual gearbox

Touchscreen interface is frustrating

Engaging dynamics

Volkswagen Polo GTI (MK5)

Often overlooked, the Polo GTI is probably just as capable as the Golf GTI of any era (in this case being the MK6 mentioned above.

Less powerful, sure, but also tighter to drive and encumbered by less mass. The twin-charged (supercharger and turbocharger combo) 1.4-litre TSI was uprated to 180PS and rightfully felt a little overpowered, but as it aged can be prone to mechanical fragility, but is a technological marvel.

The DSG, similarly, can be a handful if not maintained properly. That said, you’re more likely to find a Polo GTI that’s been treated more gently than a Golf GTI, so pay attention to verifying the car’s service history and the prior owner’s preventative maintenance practices to bag a bargain.

What We Like

What We Don’t Like

Tighter, lighter Golf GTI

Possible DSG issues

Shockingly rapid point-to-point

Boot could be bigger

Twincharged engine = uninterrupted power

Engine more prone to wear and tear

Renault Clio RS 200 EDC

In Peugeot’s hot hatch floundering until the 208 (and VW’s until the MK5 GTI), Renault Sport has gone from strength to strength. However, purists view the EDC – short for Efficient Dual Clutch – as the black sheep in the family.

Unlike its predecessors, the 200 EDC (so named for its 200PS 1.6-litre turbo engine) swapped a manual gearbox for an automatic gearbox and a high-revving naturally aspirated engine for a downsized forced induction unit. Arguments aside, the car drove beautifully and was wicked fun on a twisty road.

Sold for a too-brief window in Malaysia by TC Euro Cars, a majority of Clio RS examples found homes in enthusiasts and genuinely careful owners, which might make tracking a good one down a little less tedious.

What We Like

What We Don’t Like

Makes you drive like a hooligan (positively)

Plasticky cabin materials

Strong engine

EDC gearbox not as involving as MT

Left-field appeal

Ford Focus ST (C346)

Back in 2012, the Focus ST’s local arrival was a shocker. Looked killer, 250PS from a 2.0-litre turbo, a 6-speed manual, and standard Recaro bucket seats were an irresistible combo.

Sime Darby Auto Connexion didn’t have an ample allocation headed our way, meaning the few that got their hands on one were extra lucky. As a result, they’ve become hard to find as owners first, second, or third tend to resist the urge to sell.

And why would they? Generally speaking, the car has been surprisingly void of noteworthy faults or reported issues despite it toeing the line at 10 years old, and there’s literally nothing quite like it on the road since. If you find one, especially if it’s in good condition, we say snatch it up!

What We Like

What We Don’t Like

Powerful engine

Thirsty when pushed hard

Aggressive looks

Garish cabin trim

Sharp handling

Conclusion

If you adhere to the rule of taking your sweet time in looking for a used car and inspecting every one to a thorough inspection before moving forward with a purchase, your future ownership of a ‘dream’ hot hatch should be relatively scare-free assuming you’ve managed expectations.

To help you decide, here is a brief condensation of how the cars we’ve mentioned above stack up:
