ORA Good Cat: Looks To Captivate, Capabilities To Exceed

The electric vehicle (EV) segment has generated a lot of excitement in the automotive industry recently, and one of the most popular models is undoubtedly the ORA Good Cat, gaining significant public attention and chatter due to its uniquely attractive exterior design.

However, there’s a lot more to this car than its looks. Although the ORA Good Cat is positioned as a small car, many people may be misled by its appearance in photos and assume it might be a little too compact for their liking. In actuality,  To provide a clearer perspective, let’s compare some measurements (Length x Width x Height).

ORA Good Cat: 4,235 x 1,825 x 1,596, with a wheelbase of 2,650mm
Honda City Hatchback: 4,345 x 1,748 x 1,488, with a wheelbase of 2,600mm

Now, let’s delve into the car’s accessible performance, which is crucial for drivers in Southeast Asian countries like Thailand and Malaysia and their demanding drivers. Many Chinese electric cars have faced criticism for their speed limitations.

The ORA Good Cat boasts impressive specifications from its front-mounted electric motor, including 143 horsepower and peak torque of 210 Nm, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, and a top speed of 152 km/h. With five driving modes (Normal, Sport, Eco, Eco+, Auto) and an intelligent single-pedal control system, the driving experience can be as effortless or more involving, depending on your preference for that day.

That said, it also represents a lifestyle and a certain versatility. Its head-turning appeal while driving will undoubtedly be a noticeable occurrence, but it belies genuinely capable product. So, in addition to its aesthetics, it offers an excellent driving experience thanks to its sure-footed handling, low centre of gravity, and manoeuvrability.

Safety features are of utmost importance for electric cars, encompassing charging safety, power battery safety, and active/passive safety functions. The ORA Good Cat, with nearly 150,000 units sold globally, demonstrates its commitment to safety through various validated figures.

Highways need to upgrade motorcycle lanes for big bikes

The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) has stated that all motorcycle lanes on all highways here in Malaysia need to be upgraded, particularly to suit big bikes.

LLM Chairman, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, stated that the upgrades are necessary because they also need to be suitable for high-powered motorcycles in order to reduce the risk of accidents, The Vibes reported.

According to Datuk Seri Jalaluddin, “Highway concessionaires are urged to upgrade the (motorcycle) lanes or provide appropriate facilities for these types of motorcycles to ensure the riders’ safety.”

He also added that a number of bike lane entrances in places like Penang and Ipoh are deemed unsafe for big bikes with the possibility to cause more harm than good. LLM reported that more than 10,000 road accidents reported this year involved 200 fatal cases that were motorcycle-related.

LLM also urged all highway concessionaires to consider other aspects in upgrading their respective motorcycle lanes from usage safety during bad weather as well as a more safe place for all riders to shelter away from the rain and the highway overpasses which have resulted in several crashes and fatalities.

Renowned Canadian superstar Ryan Reynolds is making waves in the motorsport world, going beyond owning a football team. Renault Group and Alpine have just announced a significant investment of over $218 million in Alpine Racing Ltd, the high-performance F1 team based in Enstone, UK.

The investment comes from a prominent group of investors known as the “Investor Group,” which includes Otro Capital, RedBird Capital Partners, and Maximum Effort Investments. This move grants the Investor Group a 24% equity stake in Alpine Racing Ltd, fueling Alpine’s growth and ambitions in the Formula 1 arena.

With a valuation of approximately $900 million, this investment leverages the Investor Group’s expertise in various sports industry verticals, including media, sponsorship, ticketing, hospitality, commercial rights management, licensing, and merchandising.

Led by Ryan Reynolds, the Investor Group has a proven track record of collaborations with industry giants like the Dallas Cowboys, Fenway Sports Group, NFL, Toulouse FC, and Wrexham AFC.

Empty stands at SIC: Sepang CEO wants to reignite the fan experience at the national circuit

Despite the thrilling action on the track, the challenge lies in filling the stands and enhancing spectator engagement.

The electrifying action that unfolded on the track during Round 2 of the Malaysia Championship Series at Sepang this past weekend was absolutely thrilling.

However, it was disheartening to see so few spectators in the stands to witness the excitement.

The sight of empty seats throughout the three days of racing was truly perplexing, especially considering that entry to the main grandstand was free.

Despite achieving a milestone with record-breaking participation of 54 cars across four categories, the lack of fan interest remains a pressing issue.

The Vibes has taken it upon itself to shed light on this problem.

Sepang International Circuit’s CEO, Azhan Shafriman Hanif, acknowledged the need for more efforts in promoting the series. “While I’m pleased with the increased driver participation this weekend, we must strive to bring more people to the stands,” he stated.

“We need to provide additional attractions and activities that give spectators a reason to come to Sepang. My team and I will investigate how to increase the spectatorship at the circuit.”

The Malaysia Championship Series features thrilling touring car racing, showcasing heavily modified road-going cars across four categories.

It serves as a platform for young local drivers to prove their skills and even attracts seasoned veterans like Malaysia’s former Formula One driver, Alex Yoong.

Moreover, the series has an international appeal, with participants coming from neighbouring ASEAN countries and even as far as Latin America.

Azhan recognizes the need for better promotion and marketing of the race. “To be honest, we need to work harder in terms of promoting and marketing this race to the fans,” he admitted.

“At the moment, our shout-outs are done via our social media and press releases for our friends in the media. What we need to do better in the coming rounds is to provide additional things for the spectators, especially in terms of food and beverage options. We also need to provide them with activities to do outside (of the race) and so on, but these are the things that we need to improve,.”

In order to bolster the race, Azhan is actively seeking corporate sponsors and partners. “One of the things that we might be looking at further in the near future is to get more corporate companies or sponsors to come in to support the race,” he emphasized.

“As you can see the participation is very good, I think the viewership on Facebook and also YouTube is also good.”  – The Vibes.

With two more rounds of racing to come, including Round 3 from August 25-27 and the final round from September 22-24, there is still an opportunity to revitalize the fan experience and make the Malaysia Championship Series a resounding success.

BMW confirms an M5 Touring is on the way

Seventh generation BMW M5 sedan to be joined by touring variant.

BMW’s M division is set to continue its product offensive in 2024, and the highly anticipated seventh generation of the BMW M5 Sedan will be joined by a wagon sibling.

While the prototypes are cleverly disguised, their unmistakable character as high-performance vehicles shines through.

Excitingly, BMW M fans can anticipate another addition to the lineup as the brand confirms the extension of its model range with a Touring variant of the new high-performance model.

The new BMW M5 Touring, scheduled for release in 2024, will bring back the perfect combination of M-typical performance, uncompromising long-distance comfort, and impressive spaciousness.

Like its sedan counterpart, the BMW M5 Touring will feature a completely newly developed, partially electrified drive system, further emphasizing M-typical performance characteristics and precisely tuned chassis technology with innovative systems.

This approach highlights M’s commitment to electrification, with hybrid drive systems being introduced in their high-performance cars. Dirk Häcker, Head of Development at BMW M GmbH, states, “We are now also installing a hybrid drive system with typical M performance in other high-performance cars.”

For nearly four decades, the BMW M5 has set the benchmark for driving dynamics, agility, and precision in the high-performance sedan segment. Evolutionary progress, racing expertise, and pioneering innovations in areas such as drive, suspension, aerodynamics, and lightweight construction have shaped the iconic history of the BMW M5.

Noteworthy technological milestones include engines with six, eight, and ten cylinders, M TwinPower Turbo technology, high-revving characteristics, the compound brake system with M Carbon ceramic brakes, and M xDrive four-wheel drive. The seventh generation of the BMW M5 continues this tradition with captivating innovations for an even more exhilarating performance experience.

The BMW M5 Touring made its debut in 1992, based on the second-generation BMW M5 Sedan, offering a compelling combination of high performance and everyday practicality.

In 2007, BMW M GmbH introduced a Touring variant for the fourth-generation BMW M5, further reinforcing the appeal of this special vehicle concept in the premium mid-range segment of high-performance cars.

The recent successful launch of the BMW M3 Competition Touring with M xDrive underscores the demand for this exceptional vehicle concept.

Testing for the new BMW M5 Touring will commence in the coming days, encompassing urban traffic, country roads, and motorways around Munich and the BMW M GmbH headquarters in Garching.

The comprehensive evaluation of all drive and suspension systems will also take place at the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife, ensuring the perfect balance between track-focused performance and superior ride comfort for everyday and long-distance driving.

Toyota unveils the All-New 2024 C-HR – Concept car looks brought to life!

Dynamic performance, hybrid powertrains, and striking design take the C-HR to new heights.

Toyota has officially revealed the exhilarating all-new C-HR SUV, poised to make its grand entrance into markets in the first half of 2024.

With a captivating blend of bold aesthetics, cutting-edge hybrid powertrains, enhanced safety features, connected services, and an immersive driving experience, this next-generation model builds upon the success of its predecessor, elevating its status to a new level of premium appeal.

Sporting a slightly shorter yet wider profile than its predecessor, the new C-HR commands attention with its striking, athletic presence on the road. Its coupe-like silhouette, short overhangs, and impressive alloy wheels (up to 19 inches) further enhance its sporty appeal.

Drawing inspiration from the acclaimed C-HR Prologue Concept, the front end of the new C-HR exudes an alluring charm, representing a fresh and emotive face for Toyota SUVs.

The sophisticated design language of interlocking shapes continues along the vehicle’s sides with diamond-cut character lines, while a “concealed tech” approach, featuring flush door handles (a first for Toyota), ensures a seamless aesthetic and optimal aerodynamics.

For now, enthusiasts can choose from three grades – GXL, Koba, and the exciting new top-of-the-range GR Sport. The GR Sport, boasting all-wheel drive (AWD), marks Toyota’s first-ever hybrid AWD variant in the C-HR lineup.

With a commanding 197 PS of combined maximum power generated by its 2.0-litre hybrid powertrain, equipped with front and rear electric motors, the GR Sport truly represents the pinnacle of the range.

The 2WD GXL and Koba models, on the other hand, harness the latest generation 1.8-litre hybrid powertrain, offering a significant power increase compared to their predecessors. With a combined maximum power output of 140 PS, the 1.8-litre hybrid powertrain delivers almost 15% more power, enhancing the C-HR’s performance capabilities.

Both the fifth-generation hybrid powertrains boast redesigned components, reducing size and weight for improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions. Additionally, the new C-HR introduces numerous eco-friendly initiatives, including a doubled usage of recycled plastics in over 100 different parts, as well as a lightweight panoramic roof design with infra-red reducing coatings, replacing the need for a sunshade and optimizing interior space.

Inside the cabin, the C-HR’s premium-quality design invites supreme comfort and advanced technology. Depending on the grade, drivers can enjoy a fully digital instrument cluster, Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, and a state-of-the-art 12.3-inch multimedia unit with the latest generation infotainment system.

Moreover, the all-new C-HR offers advanced Connected Services functionality, ensuring enhanced customer personalisation, and a range of advanced safety technologies to provide unparalleled peace of mind.
