CNY 2023: Free toll on ALL highways from 20-21 January

All highways here in Malaysia will offer toll-free travel for this year’s Chinese New Year from 20-21 January 2023.

The announcement was made by our very own Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, earlier this week following a detailed discussion with the Transport and Works Ministries together with the highway concessionaires.

Free toll for ALL vehicle types

It was also announced that the toll-free travel period for CNY 2023 will apply to all types of vehicles that are planning to travel on the highways during these two days.

The financial implication might cost all involved parties around RM40 million, the move might also assist in easing the congestion that all of us are expecting as the PLUS highway expects around 2 million vehicles to travel every day for this year’s CNY festivities.

According to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as reported by MalaysiaKini, “(This initiative) will ease (the financial burden) of everyone travelling to their hometowns. Not only the Chinese, but the Malays, Indians, and others as well.”

“I would just like to advise road users to be safe on the road, follow the rules and avoid becoming a part of (road accident) statistics that keep increasing every year,” added Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

As another reminder, the speed limit for all federal and state roads has been temporarily reduced by 10km/h for safety precautions. Drive safe and have a prosperous Chinese New Year, folks!
