New Teslas without parking sensors are TERRIBLE?

Tesla is in a unique role when it comes to saving money but its latest antic involving the removal of parking sensors from their newer cars is just…well…terrible.

New Tesla models that just rolled off the factory like the Model 3 and Model Y (from December 2022 onwards) are said to no longer have front and rear parking sensors, according to CarExpert. Surely Tesla is doing this because they have the latest tech to replace this ancient parking tech that has been around for decades, right?

Those seemingly cheap ultrasonic parking sensors are out of the way for good and these new Tesla models are relying on the Tesla camera vision – a tech that constructs an image of the vehicle’s surroundings. Is it any good? Not according to an EV dealer (and Tesla owner) based in the UK.

Basic parking situations were put to the test and the results are not a ‘unique selling point’ for these newer Teslas. We’re pretty sure that the folks over at Tesla are working hard to settle this pretty serious issue, but until then, those parking sensors can be heard singing the words “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.

Audi Malaysia recalls 2,767 vehicles for Takata airbag defects

PHS Automotive Malaysia (PHSAM) has announced a voluntary recall for 2,767 Audi vehicles here in Malaysia.

The reason? Defective Takata airbags. Which Audi models? The recall covers the Audi A4 Sedan, A5 Sportback, A6 Sedan, Q5, and TT Coupe models that were manufactured from 2008 to 2017.

Affected customers are urged to contact the nearest Audi Centre to receive a complimentary inspection and replacement of the Takata airbag (if necessary) as soon as they can because the issue affecting these defective Takata airbags is nothing small.

It’s not a new issue but a major one that has seen major recall programs being done around the globe by several brands and manufacturers that use the Takata airbag system in their model offerings.

The gas generator housing used within the airbag to deploy the airbags in case of emergencies can potentially cause small metal parts to become dislodged from the housing when the airbags are deployed.

According to Erik Winter, Managing Director of PHSAM, “At Audi, safety is paramount, and this will continue to be one of the distinguishing factors in our on-going efforts to improve aftersales service. We recognise that the top reasons customers choose Audi are for its performance and safety features – and it is a high standard we will continue to uphold responsibly.”

“Although we have determined the number of vehicles for this recall, it’s possible that not all of them will need replacement parts. We want to encourage customers to get their vehicles inspected at our service centres for better peace of mind,” added Erik.

KL residents, business owners want parking limit introduced

Residents and business owners are calling for DBKL to implement a two-hour parking limit in the central business district to help ease parking congestion and rid of those who hog the parking bays from morning to evening.

The theory behind a two-hour parking limit is to ensure that there is an adequate turnover of vehicles in a particular area, especially in areas where parking spaces are limited.

By imposing a time limit on parking, it allows more people to have access to the parking space throughout the day, rather than having the same car parked in the same spot for an extended period of time.

For this exact reason, residents and business owners want DBKL to implement such parking rules, especially in severely congested areas like  Brickfields and Bukit Bintang.

According to The Star’s report, the locals of the area are seeking DBKL’s intervention to resolve the long-standing issue of no parking as they are fed up with having to look for it constantly.

Tong Soon Mansion resident, G.S Maniam said they have been waiting for the 2 hour parking limit implementation for the longest of time now, ever since people who are working in the offices are occupying the parking bays for many hours.

Devotees at the Buddhist Maha Vihara Temple in Jalan Berhala also want the same ruling for parking, as they have struggled to find parking every day,” said temple secretary Tilak Leslie Jayawardena.

While Bukit Bintang residents and business owners share the same problem, theirs are a bit more unique as not only do they have to fight with the hogging of parking bays, but they also have to deal with abandoned vehicles and food trucks.

“These cars have expired road tax. Service vehicles and food trucks are also occupying the parking bays for long hours,” said business owner John Sim, reported The Star.

DBKL had actually planned to impose a two-hour parking limit in the central business district to reduce traffic congestion since 2016,the plan however, was never implemented.
